The fiber laser cutting machine is suitable for metal cutting, such as stainless steel plate, low carbon steel plate, carbon steel plate, alloy steel plate, spring steel plate, iron plate, galvanized plate, aluminum plate, copper plate, brass plate, bronze plate, gold plate, silver plate, titanium plate, metal plate, and if you are equipped with a rotary axis, metal plates and tubes are all possible. Fiber laser cutting machines are widely used for manufacturing billboards, signs, advertising, signboards, metal letters, LED letters, kitchenware, advertising letters, metal plate processing, metal parts and components, ironware, chassis, racks and cabinet processing, metal crafts, metal artwork, lift panel cutting, hardware, car parts, glasses frames, electronic parts, nameplates, etc.

What is CNC machining?

CNC laser cutting is a non-contact, heat-based process. A CNC laser cutting machine has a laser head containing a laser-focusing mirror and a nozzle. Through the nozzle, this head and lens assembly focus the laser beam – a very high-intensity column of light – onto the workpiece, melting and cutting it to the desired shape. The CNC laser uses compressed gas (which also flows through the nozzle that ejects the laser beam) to cool the focusing lens and expel the vaporized metal from the workpiece.

Look at it this way. When you focus a high-powered laser beam on a point on a metal surface, the thermal density at that point becomes high, causing that point on the metal to heat up quickly and partially (or completely) vaporize. The CNC then controls this laser head and the sequence of movements of the laser beam on the work surface to form the desired custom shape and features.

What are the types of CNC laser cutting machines?

CNC laser cutting machines are usually classified according to the state of the active laser medium (solid, liquid, or gas) and the composition of the active laser medium (for example, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, etc.). The following are the three most commonly used lasers today.

CNC CO2 laser cutting machines

CNC CO2 laser cutting machines

CO2 laser cutting machines are gas lasers that use carbon dioxide as the active laser medium. They are the most common type of laser cutting machine, mainly because of their high power output capability and efficiency.

CO2 laser cutting machines produce a power output of up to 15 kW with an efficiency of up to 30% (the highest of all gas laser cutting machines). They are ideal for cutting fine features and sharp angles, especially for cutting sheet metal or metal less than 10 mm thick. Higher-power CO2 laser cutting machines can also provide good cut quality on thicker metal surfaces.

CNC fiber laser cutting machines

The fiber laser cutting machine is a relatively new laser technology that uses a set of diodes to produce a beam of light that is focused through a fiber optic cable. Compared to CO2 laser cutting machines, fiber laser cutting machines allow for a faster and cleaner cutting process, especially on materials less than 5 mm thick.

Although fiber lasers are compatible with a wide range of materials, you must pay particular attention to silver.

Silver retains the heat of the laser and starts to deform during the cutting operation, which can be a challenge to achieve the desired machined part. For this reason, top machine shops often use a holder as a heat sink to transfer the heat away from the silver workpiece during the fiber laser cutting operation.

CNC Crystal Laser Cutting Machines

CNC crystal laser cutting machines use beams made from crystals such as neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd: YAG) and neodymium-doped yttrium orthovanadate (Nd: YVO).

Crystal laser cutters typically have a higher intensity (or laser power) than CO2 laser cutters, which means you can use them to cut thicker metals. These cutters also have a wide range of material compatibility, including metal, glass, wood, and plastic.

Advantages of CNC laser cutting

  • CNC laser cutting produces more complex designs and holes as small as 2mm with a high degree of accuracy and precision.
  • CNC laser cutting produces cleaner kerfs without the need for additional post-processing (or finishing) operations.
  • CNC laser cutting machines do not require several cutting tools or customized tools such as conventional CNC milling machines and mills.
  • The non-contact nature of the laser cutting process reduces the risk of material distortion and material contamination, making it ideal for processing parts that will be used in the medical industry.

Hat are the advantages of a bed or frame?

  • frame for metal cutter: The main ones are frame thickness, travel speed, vibration damping, good price, durability, and a service life of 10 years and more.
  • It is important that the bed is of high quality and has the right configuration. This avoids vibrations. The thickness of the frames used on laser cutting machines depends on the size of the working area and the travel speed.
  • As the speed of the CNC metal cutter increases, the inertia also increases. To compensate for this, frames with larger thicknesses are used.
  • The frames on CNC fiber optic cutters have the right structure, the most optimal for absorbing vibrations. In addition, there are sheets of reinforcement inside the frame every 400 mm. This contributes to its excessive strength.
  • During manufacturing, the frames undergo a heat treatment called annealing. This type of treatment allows you to extend the service life to10 years and more.
